En mars 1971, John Lennon écrit la chanson titre de l'album Imagine, dont les paroles furent à leur tour inspirées par le livre de Yoko Ono, Grapefruit. « Il y avait dedans un tas de paragraphes disant imaginez ci, imaginez ça, se souvient John Lennon, Yoko m'a beaucoup aidé pour les paroles, mais je n'étais pas assez homme pour le reconnaître à l'époque? J'étais encore obnubilé par un désir de trouver un espace rien qu'à moi après toutes ces années dans la même pièce avec les autres Beatles, obligé de tout partager."

la meuf italo deluxe m'a ramassé dans un coin pourri de campagne du côté de montargis
depuis deux heures ça roule vers le sud comme dans les mauvais polars
elle a pas ouvert son bec et m'a pas jeté un regard non plus
au volant de la volvo, le regard fixé dans le soleil, les mains détendues
elle roule droit devant sans le moindre frémissement
imperturbable comme une star un dimanche vers 16 heures dans une baignoire pleine de mousse
elle paraît ignorer l'existence de la pédale de frein
la seule fois o? elle desserre les lèvres c'est pour m'avertir que la volvo est volée
"si les flics t'inquiètent..."
l'air de sous-entendre que je peux tout aussi bien descendre
merde ! d'habitude c'est moi qui inquiète les autres
je la regarde avec indifférence, qu'est-ce que j'en ai à foutre
son profil renaissance détaché en blanc sur le noir de l'ombre qui commence d'envahir, elle semble rouler vers sa mort, sans pitié pour les moucherons qui s'éclatent contre le pare-brise, bandant peut-être une dernière fois
je tente de paraître à l'aise, mais elle lâche brusquement: "tu pisses dans ton froc ?"
inutile de répondre, mon cas s'en trouverait pas amélioré
et la psychologie n'avait pas l'air son truc
je finis par inventer une vague ex-copine un peu baisable du côté de bollène et elle me jette sur une bretelle en rase campagne
je me doute bien sûr pas à cet instant que je vais avoir l'occasion de la revoir, et pas si tard que ça ...
